Boat-Journey

Water is infinite. Water is alive. Water is the power of life.

One day, I started making fish out of clay. The elusive, fast, glittering animal, made out of clay, immortalized in stone. Motionless, yet full of life, almost a real fish. Today, more then 10 years later, my main source of inspiration is still the sea. I still create fish, but the approach is different. Nowadays, I make works of art, as a creation of fantasies and stories, reproducing my thoughts, daydreams and ideas. The sea and our daily life a century ago are my main inspiration, represented clearly and directly, yet incorporating a personal story. The main material is mostly ceramics, sometimes in combination with other materials, such as rope, wood, lead and glass, sometimes imitating natural materials (velvet, ice or wood), using various ceramic techniques. My work consists of pieces of art of various sizes, often with fish but also without. The fish give their own dimension; they give the sculptures a funny, surprising and accessible edge. They make them recognizable and they complete the story. The titles of the pieces represent the thoughts behind the sculpture and are an important part of the total image.
